‘Physical Therapy’ Unfolded

Pediatric physical therapy, commonly known as PT, is a specialized branch of therapy focused on children’s physical development and mobility. It aims to address movement limitations, improve strength, and enhance coordination in infants, children, and adolescents. PT sessions often involve a variety of activities and exercises tailored to each child’s needs, such as stretching, strengthening exercises, balance training, and functional tasks.

These sessions are designed to help children achieve developmental milestones, improve motor skills, and engage in daily activities more independently. Through PT, children can overcome physical challenges, improve their quality of life, and reach their full potential.

Physical Therapy Makes It All Possible

Not Limited To

Children who may benefit from physical therapy include those diagnosed with conditions such as developmental delays due to prematurity, neurological disorders like cerebral palsy, congenital hypotonia, genetic syndromes such as Down syndrome, hydrocephalus, and spina bifida. Additionally, musculoskeletal disorders like scoliosis, arthrogryposis, muscular dystrophy, torticollis, club feet, orthopedic injuries, spinal cord injury, autism, cancer, or other trauma may warrant physical therapy intervention.

Therapist’s Role in PT

The child may exhibit challenges related to positioning, walking, communication, attention, cognitive abilities, and/or motor skills. The Physical Therapist (PT) will conduct assessments to evaluate range of motion, muscle tone, and strength, as well as to identify developmental reflexes. Based on the findings, the PT will devise a personalized treatment plan aimed at improving motor function while addressing any impediments to age-appropriate motor skill acquisition. They will also design a comprehensive home exercise program tailored to your child's needs, which you and other caregivers can implement.

Common Conditions

Children may not always comprehend why they’re in therapy. Our Physical Therapists at Building Blocks Pediatrics LLC employ play, enjoyment, and motivation to involve them in learning and practicing skills.

Physical therapy offers effective treatment for a variety of childhood disorders characterized by movement dysfunction or motor skill issues.
